Thanks Brad for your reply.
I finally solved the dilemma. Turns out that somehow a virus was placed in
my Windows system folder which apparently was directed at my Mail client. I
reflected on what troubleshooting I had done and knew that something just
didn't add up. I d/l the latest NAV definitions and scanned for a new virus
and lo and behold there it was.
Strange indeed considering that I have both an SMC barricade w NAT and as a
backup I have Zone ALarm Pro as a final defense. The only way I could have
gotten this was through the Usenet Newsgroups. How it got activated is a
mystery to me. I never open any attachments or files from unknown sources.
Everyone out there use this as word when it comes to strange misbehaviour of
normally solid systems all of sudden. exhibiting signs of quirkiness and
failures.
