Best Michael Didn't see Mike Rhendoni -- or any construction crews for that matter -- while I was there. There was lots of construction gear in a fenced-off section of the capitol grounds, a sign for Mark 1, and a bit of scaffolding, but probably it was too cold and windy (20-plus mph winds) to actually work. The fellow who took me around was Tom Casper, since the architect, whose name I have temporarily forgotten, was away at the time. Casper showed a little shock of recogniztion when I mentioned your name, and he strongly agreed with all the quotes from your text that I read to him. No kidding about the 8th wonder of the world, in multiple ways and directions. Interesting that Goodhue insisted on building a Court of Appeals chamber even though Nebraska didn't create such a court until the 1990s. Also loved (but didn't get to climb) the glass stairway that spirals around all eight sides of the memorial hall, between the inner and outer windows. I didn't even notice it until I realize there had to be some way to reach the space above. My mother is long gone, but I didn't set foot in any dance halls. Used book shops, well, that's another story. At least I helped keep them in the biz.
