<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> Greetings all ... I guess I'm looking for anecdotal and moral support. Nearly a year ago I took my 2 year old off gluten (well first wheat, and later gluten) because of various symptoms and what I'd learned from others about food allergies and intolerances. Many things cleared up. But, as you know, a gluten sensitivity is rare and it just seems too weird to be true. Oh ... I believe in it ... (I also believe in Santa Claus ;) ) Really, I do. But, our family encounters many skeptics. Among them a pediatric gastroenterologist who test his blood 10 months after he'd been gluten free. Pronounced him clean and questioned why I was depriving him so many food. She recommended that I put him back on gluten and seemed pretty disgusted wtih my self diagnosis and lack of science. Well, my hubby talked me into "challenging" his condition. Now, two days into eating bread, pizza, regular pasta ... he had a bowel movement that made him shriek and then yell, "It hurts, it hurts." He shed about two tears and was then OK. The stool had a big red dot (blood, perhaps? He didn't eat anything like beets or playdough) and a slight hint of blood on it. (My imagination? My hypochondria?) Anyway, I called the pediatrician. We're playing phone tag. She's a celiac specialist. She says it's too early for him to have any such symptoms so its up to me what I decide to do. Well, with all the peer pressure, I'm going to continue letting him eat wheat for a few more days ... unless tonight is our second night without sleep. (In the old days, gluten made him sleepless. Last night was a repeat). I know what sounds logical if you "believe" in celiac, but the people around me don't "believe" and have a bunch of other reasons for the symptoms (a busy day yesterday). They could be right. But, one more night that he's up all night (without even being tired the next day) ... and I'll have to cut him off. I can't take the lack of sleep. Anyway ... has anyone else had symptoms the day after ingesting gluten? I don't understand my doctor's interpretation? Maybe she means he can't have a bloody stool in just two days? Is this all in my imagination? Am I jumping to conclusions? I hate how this challenges my perception of reality. What's the voice of experience say? Science is frustrating me. Thanks so much, Paris in Cleveland
