I'm also  sceptical towards white potatoes.   Are they edible raw?  (in any
significant quatity)
When I dig up the first new potatoes,  I like to eat raw one or two small
ones (but not more than that)

I tend to think that the main problem with white potatoes, is that they are
"bland-filler-stuff ",  that
takes up room  for better foods with more , vitamins and minerals.  As an
example  - before potatoes came to Europe,
kale was eaten  "instead"  of potatoes (as a winter-food).   Kale is far
more nutritious than potatoes.
