Compaq's on screen display is what causes the screen to display volume and
other keyboard activities related to special keyboard buttons.

When setting the attributes for the color of the display, I get an error
message "An error occurred while Windows was working in Control Panel with
the file OSDCPL.CPL". I've written to Compaq's help desk. After giving me
two series of instructions, including a partial restore, neither of which
worked, they now have suggested I do a total restore. That would remove
all software, files, devices etc. that were installed since the computer
was purchased.

To me, this seems just a bit extreme and ridiculous.

Can someone e-mail me a copy of OSDCPL.CPL, version 4,0,0,53 or
later? There is no copy available on Compaq's website and I haven't been
able to find it elsewhere.

Of course if I'm wrong about this being all I need, please let me know.

thanks,

Ralph Willing
