Culled from The Point Secy Jagne Says UN Regrets B/Diamond Accusation The new Foreign Secretary, Babucarr Blaise Jagne, has said that the UN regretted the accusation levelled against President Jammeh over the “Blood Diamond” saga, adding that the whole issue was later seen as nothing but a misunderstanding engineered and blown out of proportion by the enemies of President Jammeh. Mr. Jagne said this at a rally in Kerr Ardo in NBD over the weekend as President Jammeh continued his campaign across the country. He reiterated that the president preached and worked for peace in not only the sub-region, but throughout the whole world. Jagne stated that some opposition elements, envious of President Jammeh’s good efforts, attempted to stain his character. The Foreign Secretary continued, stating that the opposition also picked on Baba Jobe. But, to him, the opposition and enemies of President Jammeh would stop at nothing in their character assassination move. He described President Jammeh as a leader who introduced the politics of development in the country. Mr. Jagne then called on the people to support the President and APRC as he has a lot of development plans in stock for them. He revealed that the World Food Programme (WFP) had chosen The Gambia as a site for its emergency food store. He said 22 countries bidded to host the food store but then all lost it to The Gambia. He also stated that while serving in the UN as Gambia’s diplomat, he was very proud of President Jammeh, among his colleagues. On his part, Yankuba Touray, the APRC chief mobilizer, reminded the villagers of the Kerewan Bridge which was constructed by the Jammeh government. He listed the numerous projects instituted by the Yahya government. He said, the President plans to do more. Mr. Touray who described the president as a leader, who stands for the people and called on them to vote for development by voting Jammeh and APRC in the October 18 polls . Addressing APRC militants, President Jammeh thanked the people for being loyal and supportive to him and his government since the 1994 coup. He expressed happiness that Kerr Ardo and other villages are for him. The president, who promised to solve their problems, gave them money to build their Mosque.
