I'm reading "The Paleolithic Prescription", and they give names of several hunter gather societies that eat nuts as a staple. But obviously it should not be a staple for me, since I blow up like a balloon. I suspect that these HGs did not sit in front of computers all day as I do. > It is likely that it's the nuts (and excess calories) more than the fruit that has caused you to gain weight, unless you are also eating large amount of additional fat, which would further cause you to way overshoot your daily energy needs. It's possible to eat fruit several times a day and be slim! If you cut out the nuts, keep your fat and calorie intake more in line with your energy needs, and eat generous amounts of fibrous veggies and some lean protein at each meal, it is possible to have your fruit and eat it to (and weigh less than 125 pounds! I was eating large amounts of full-fat yogurt with fruit and nuts--every day. The yogurt was made from hot-from-the-cow milk (literally--we'd pick it up right after milking) and the cows were grass fed, but it was still full-fat yogurt. I think the combination of high fat and high carbs is what did me in. I'm off the yogurt and nuts now, and I'm trying to limit fruit to two pieces per day--at least until I've lost some of the weight I gained. My clothes don't fit, and I hate that. I've never been able to get down to 125. Wouldn't it be a miracle if I did! I've been very good today--quite the cavegirl. I had a colonoscopy this morning, and I told my gastroenterologist that I was going on a caveman diet. He rolled his eyes. Then he said that it was fine with him if I didn't eat any complex carbs--I'd have less gas. - Sheryl
