<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> Hi Cindy, I am posting to the list as I suspect that others may be concerned about the same issue. In Kamran Rostami's Ph.D. thesis, University of Amsterdam, 1998 (chapter 4, page 58 ) ************************************************** "Conclusion: A negative result for EMA in coeliacs with normal IgA value doesn't exclude the diagnosis of CD. A positive EMA is seen mostly in those coeliacs with severe tissue damage (SVA/TVA). EMA has a low sensitivity in coeliacs with PVA in spite of use of of different substrates." SVA= sub-total villous atrophy TVA= total villous atrophy PVA= partial villous atrophy ************************************************** There is little doubt that positive endomysium antibody test results are diagnostic for celiac disease. Those who do not show villous damage will do so in the very near future if they continue to consume gluten. However, a negative blood test should not exclude celiac disease. Dr. Chris Mulder has reported that more than 30% of celiacs with mild villous atrophy will be missed with blood tests. I have misplaced the paper in question, so I can't cite it. I my comments prove helpful. best wishes, Ron
