Susan,
Sorry to hear about your infection. From your description, I'd also guess
it's a fungus. Do you get your nails done at a salon? Some good advice I
once read is to bring your own *complete set* of manicure tools (brushes,
files, clippers, cuticle pushers, buffers and even polish) to the nail salon
so you won't catch anything from theirs. I'm told that one should get a
discount for doing this.

Dandelion root tea (which is a very paleo coffee substitute by the way) will
help detoxify the liver. Pau D'Arco tea is a powerful antifungal. I always
recommend using bulk herbs for tea. You'll want to boil these herbs
(seperately) in purified water in a non-reactive pot for about 10 minutes.
You can rub pure lanolin into the fingers. Lanolin has
antibacterial/antifungal properties. You can infuse the lanolin with minced
garlic if you wish. Be sure to eat plenty of foods rich in calcium, which
aids healing.

As I understand, it's very difficult to kill a nail fungus. Please let us
know if you have success with these (and Siobhan's) suggestions.

Paleobest,
Stacie
(yup, I'm still here)
