I want to install hard drive as slave to existing hard drive on same
cable. Several attempts all resulted in master hard drive not being
recognized. Cables were checked. Master and slave hard drives had
appropriate jumpers. BIOS had no effect.

Master hard drive works as single drive, or as master, with slave HD on
other cable. Master is 40G Western Digital, Slave is 3.2G Seagate. Slave
works as slave on another computer. Western Digital technician said
problem was conflict between the two hard drives, but offered no further
help. Other cable has DVD and CDRW, which is why I want to put slave HD
on cable with master HD. How can I resolve problem?

When I installed slave HD on second cable it became Drive D, pushing my
second and third partitions on master HD to E and F. If I get slave HD
installed as I want how can I make slave become Drive F instead of D?
