http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/nm/20010511/hl/diet_pima_indians_1.html Finally, someone catches a clue! Notice how carbs are mentioned in the first paragraph followed by an emphasis on excess fat in the rest of the story. They also mention plant protien but nothing about (gasp!) animal protein. While I know Pima Indians ate less meat than, say, the Lakota Indians of the plains, the DID eat meat. Why is it politically incorrect to mention this? Charles - do you know if the Pima diet was "rich in grains" as they claim in the story? You watch: any extended research on the Indians' native diet/s will be on the Pima tribe. Why? A few studies have been done already and what they ate is closer in macronutrient ratios to the USDA food pyramid than the diet of Plains Indians, who ate 75% animal food and just 25% plant food (even less in some cases). The Pima diet is politically correct; the Plains Indian diet is not.
