<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> I have been attending a large Episcopal church for the last year. To date, the church has not offered any gluten-free communion alternative and the rector was somewhat resistant when I suggested it. Of course, there are others in the church with celiac disease and some children with severe wheat allergy who cannot take the host either but no accomodation has yet been made. The rector thinks that it will be logistically difficult to do and would like suggestions on how other people/congregations handle this problem before deciding what to do. At this church, we do not take communion at a single location but take it standing at approximately 3-4 different locations during the larger services. There are usually 4 services each Sunday. Each chalice of wine is available for intincture or for drinking from directly. Please email me directly with any logistical suggestions I can take back to the rector. Thanks.
