Perhaps you were all saluting each other and took that as a good indication
that you should avoid one another.  It is easily misunderstood.  Like when
you call somebody a fucking asshole, and they misinterpret it.

Or it could be a lesson in what's to be lost by lurking instead of homing in
on the object of one's desires and making a fool of yourself.
