<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> Hello everyone: I hope all of you are doing well. I want to report some very interesting information. Today, my husband and I went to see an Allergist in St Paul, Minnesota named William Walsh. He is board certified, a Mayo Graduate and really understands what people go through with illnesses, allergies and Celiac Disease. My husband and I requested to be tested for foods as both of us were tested over five years ago for environmental allergies. I did not suffer much from the testing aspect. However, he blossomed out in many areas including ragweed, grasses, molds, pet dander, hay and the list goes on. He has been sitting on the toilet when eating certain foods. I had bet that he was not absorbing something. Through this panel of testing, skin test and injections, I as a Celiac came up with a very high reaction to acid foods which would be strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, grapes, potatoes and the list goes on. When one is very sensitive to acids, much of the same symptoms as Celiac can occur. Also, I am intolerant of MSG even though it is percieved as ok in CSA Handbook. It sure is not for me. I have six injections with black circles around them right now containing milk, corn, wheat, citrus and two others I cannot remember. One of them is raised and pink. The others are pretty normal. I did not test sensitive to barley, rye or wheat. Now, I know I am a Celiac but this skin test did not show it. Here is an interesting flip side. My husband, a non celiac, welted up on acidic foods and he reacted to rye, barley, some to bananas and now he is very pink and raised up in four areas of his arm which will be read tomorrow. I am wondering if one of those is wheat. Now, as an undiagnosed Celiac, he is registering the grain intolerances on the scratch test. He does have symptoms with going to the bathroom right away after eating certain things. However, I am wondering if he should be followed up on the possibility of Celiac with scratch tests coming back like that. He is not weak, but he has never had an iron test done. Dr Walsh said that he cannot test for gluten intolerance through a skin test as it is not water soluable. He is very aware of this disease and very compassionate about it. He has written three books on migraine headaches with regards ot environmental allergies and The Food Allergy Book. Anyone interested in following up with Dr Walsh in the Minneapolis St Paul area or otherwise, please let me know. He is good and easy to work with. At least, I think so anyway. Sincerely, Lisa Wicklund
