My mother's computer has exhibited 2 strange glitches over the last few days. It's an Intel Pentium 333 MMX with 32 MB Ram/8.4 GB hard drive, running Windows 98. The monitor is an Axion 17" that they got new with the system (about 3/4 years ago). Over the last few days, they've been experiencing difficulties with the monitor - every other time you turn on the computer there is no picture. If you turn the system off and back on again (physically, with the power button - reset or restart won't do it) then it works just fine. And when it does work, you notice a different problem - the system detects new hardware for an audio adaptor (CMI8330 audio adaptor) and wants to install the driver. The problem is that no one has installed any hardware, or even opened up the case. I could just install the driver, I suppose, but I'd like to know *WHY* it's detecting "new hardware"? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
