The short and easy way is: use xcopy (If you are using win98). you can switch the operating system to the new harddisk, and leave the old drive free to format. you'll need to: 1) Partition and format the new harddisk 2) open a DOS window (important, this can be only done in DOS window, not in DOS!!), run command xcopy c:\*.* new_drive_letter:\ /r/i/c/h/k/e/y eg if your new drive is E, the command will be xcopy c:\*.* e:\ /r/i/c/h/k/e/y 3) after copy completed, switch the new drive to primary master (C:) and now you have everything transfered to the new drive and you are free to do what even you want on old drive.
