Great thread on vinyl siding. My only happy memories of vinyl are my old 45s, which were probably plastic.
I like an article a found in The Alliance Review, dated March/April 1997 titled "Side-Swiped? - Synthetic Siding Still a Sticky Issue for Commissions" written by William Crosby. It is a nice summary of the myths and problems masked by synthetic siding. Quote: "Vinyl or aluminum siding may reduce exterior maintenance, but is it permanent? ...Vinyl can actually melt and crack and, like all plastic, it expands and contracts....Imagine a vinyl record tha warps when left out in the hot sun."
