The following is a schematic schedule of events and people met with by the
APTI delegation to Poland in early December 1997. The delegation is currently
working on a press release and further presentation activities. The list was
compiled by Witold Karkowski. Stay tuned for further developments.

ANTIKON '97 RESTORATION SHOW AND TRIP TO WARSAW AND CRACOW
BY THE OFFICIAL DELEGATION OF APTI

Day 1 - Szczecin

2:30    Host:           Szczecin Cooperative "Podzamcze"  (Under The Castle)
Presentation:   Reconstruction project of the old city center completely
destroyed during the war; after archaeological research new buildings will be
raised on the old foundation walls, two or three chosen for exterior
reconstruction, others presents contemporary design with mix of historical
elements complying with the Landmark Commission recommendation.
Presenters:     Maciej Slominski, historian - history of the Old City
        Tatiana Balcerzak, architect - one of the authors of the recommendations
Follow up:      Material for writing

4:30    Host:           The Workshop for Conservation of Cultural Property
        Presentation:   Conservation methods used in fine art restoration, work in
progress:
                        Icon from XIX century, wooden gothic altars.
                        Methodology, decision making process in fine art restoration
        Presenters:     Miroslawa Koutny-Giedrys, Ryszard Giedrys, conservators and
owners
Follow up:      possible publication in APTI Bulletin about St. Peter and Paul
Church ceiling restoration, cooperation in the future projects, visit to US
with presentation

Day 2 - Szczecin, Antikon Restoration Fair

10:00   Opening Ceremony - Witold Karwowski from ASPTI invited to Honor Comitee
10:30   Governor of Szczecin Province visits APTI booth
11:00   Press conference
11:30   Jim Van Westering from APTI - TV interview

Day 3 - Szczecin, Antikon Restoration Fair

7:30    Scott Demel and Kent Diebolt - trip to the city of Trzebiatow (Treptow)
with Marek Baranski and Tomasz Wolender  from Szczecin Provincial Landmark
Coservation Office. Meeting with the mayor of the town, visiting various
restoration sites throughout the city. In the way back to Szczecin visit to
Swierzno Manor and Park Complex, Medieval Cathedral in Kamien Pomorski
9:00    Ken Follet in the APTI booth - continue meetings with guests and
exhibitors
2:00    APTI presentation on the Antikon Conference:

4:00    Meeting with Mrs. Ewa Stanecka, Mr. Wladyslaw Chrostowski, Ewa Sarnik -
President of The Association of Landmark Conservators (organization of similar
profile like APTI).
        Jim Van Westering explained the American conservation system, cooperation of
the federal and local authorities and communities - problem which Poland due
to political changes still looking the ways to copy with. Questions and
discussion followed - seems like this can be valuable topic for future
contacts.
5:30    Reception - usual stuff

Day 4th, Szczecin, Antikon Restoration Fair

10:30   Hostz: Mrs. Ewa Stanecka The Provincial Landmark Conservator office.
Presentation: Various aspects of the conservation process in Poland - from
research to implementation to the local development plan
        Presenters:     Mrs. Ewa Stanecka, Mr. Tomasz Wolender
1:00    Meeting in Szczecin Provincial Office - Witold Karwowski and Jim Van
Westering met
        Mr. Artur Kozlowski General Director of The Office and Mrs. Dorota Rusak,
Governor's Cabinet Centre For International Cooperation. Mr. Kozlowski
presented profile and potential of Szczecin Province, Jim Van Westering
expressed his deep interest in business contacts between US companies and
polish counterparts.
1:00    Scott Demel and Kent Diebolt visited  Podzamcze (Under The Castle)
reconstruction project to tale pictures. Their guide was Mr. Brzozowski from
Cooperation "Podzamcze" office
2:00    Antikon '97 Show - meetings with guests
4:00    Packing up and closing APTI booth
10:15   Night train to Cracow

Day 5th, Cracow

8:00    Arrival, check in the Royal Hotel under the Wawel Castle
10:00   Tour of the Castle and Cathedral guided by Mr. Piotr Stepien, architect
working for Conservation Documentation Department of The Wawel Royal Castle.
He explained restoration problems of the Castle including taking down and
rebuilding wall along the entry road to the complex, decisions made regarding
jambs of the historical doors etc.
        Follow up: possible publication in APTI bulletin.
12:00   Tour throughout the Old City guided by Mr. Marek Baranski, visits to the
churches, city market square, old city walls preserved fragment.
8:00PM  Cracow by night - cellars with well preserved gothic brick, some beer
and jazz in the background, bigos at the market square and sound of the
trumpet from St. Mary's church at midnight

Day 6th, Cracow - Warsaw

9:00    Cathedral at the Wawel Castle, trip with Marek Baranski to the Kazimierz,
part of the city settled by the Jews in XV century, visit to the Isaac
Synagogue then back to the Old City Center.
11:00   Jama Michalika - XIX century cafe house with original interior from the
epoque
2:00    Train to Warsaw
5:00    Check in to the Hotel Polonia
6:00    Trip to the old city

Day 7th, Warsaw

9:00    Tour guided by Mrs. Hanna Michalowska architect from PKZ "Zamek"
Restoration Company:
- former North Korean Embassy: sample of the brick restoration work
- Embassy of Greece: complex rehabilitation project at finishing stage
- old Warsaw City Hall reconstruction project (City Bank Headquaters)
11:00   Visit the offices of the PKZ "Zamek", host Mr. Przemyslaw Wozniakowski
Director of the company. Presentation:
- Ostankino restoration project of the burnt Ministry of Foreign Affairs of
Russia
- Architectural and historical research project of the cellar in Kazimierz
- Pilsudski Square Competition, outline of the project made by PKZ "Zamek"
which took first prize and is recommended for realization.
12:30   Warsaw Royal Castle - tour guided by Mr. Tomasz Buzniak, Deputy Castle
Conservator.
        Short outline of the history, destruction and reconstruction.
2:00    Industrial Chemistry Research Institute - meeting with the staff
        Presentations:
- Institute profile by Commercial Director Mr. Tadeusz Froelich
- Ahydrosil and Adhesil stone consolidants - Prof. Pawel Rosciszewski

6:00    Dinner at "Bazyliszek" restaurant: Mr. Marek Baranski, Head of the
Supervision Department of The State Landmark Conservation Service, Mr.
Przemyslaw Wozniakowski, Director of PKZ Zamek, Mr. Lech Karwowski, Director
of Polish Sculpture Center in Oronsk, APTI delegation

Day 8th, Warsaw - New York
9:00 - 11:00 trip to the Old City
1:10PM Departure to New York
