>for playing video , what is a good player>>
Windows Media Player and Quicktime would be the worst video players ever.
The best of the free ones are GOM, VLC, and Kantaris. These are all
multi-functional and come with all the necessary codecs. Pause, then
right-click the video screen. You'll get more options than you'd ever want
Other useful ones are Mediaplayer Classic (a bit simpler) and Irfanview
In my order of preference:
"Kantaris can play almost anything you can throw at it -- AVI, MPEG,
MGEG-AVC, WMV, MOV, MKV, quicktime, matroska, divx, xvid, H264, MP3, WMA,
OGG files and more. Kantaris can also play DVDs and audio CDs. The player
also displays some of the most beautiful music visualizations ever seen"
