Hello Gary
My initial question question is 'have you recently started your using your
PC for something different' IE: graphics, sound, multi-tasking etc. If this
is the case and you are using large files it maybe that your RAM is being
used beyond it's capabilities, an indication of that is your 'hard drive'
light being active on your PC. Therefore you will have the hourglass hanging
around. If this is not the case/reason then we will need more detail. For
now try a defrag, it is the PC version of an asprin.
