Ellie asked about possibly adulterated coconuts of Thailand.

Yes, this is one of their practices. Of course not every producer will
do it. And as Roberta remarked the exported produce are the worst. If
you visit Thailand you will most probably get excellent quality.

Signs of bad coconuts eaten instinctively could be:
- although you stop exactly when you receive a sign from your body you
  still have symptoms of sugar overload.
- running nose
- overly high attraction, need to eat/drink a coconut at every meal.
But it is difficult to find out.
By the way: those coconuts looking like "little huts" are called Pagode.
They should be stored standing on the point although this is an unstable
position. If you put them on their flat side they are very likely to
leak after a short time because the opening is on that side.
