as far as I know, South Africa does not ship mangos to the U.S. at
present.

What is happening is that the season for Mexican mangos is just starting,
and Mexico is the #1 supplier of mangos to the US market. Prices
generally fall at this time of year when Mexican production starts.

During the time when there is no Mexican production, the US need for
mangos is filled by Brazil, Ecuador, Haiti, and a few other
smaller producers. I recall reading that Ecuador planted 10K hectares
(20K acres) of mangos, and plans to become a major producer.
