`Electrosmog' Can Affect Humans, Swiss College Study Concludes

Bloomberg News
October 20 2000 4:06AM

Zurich, October 20 (Bloomberg) --
Humans can be affected by electromagnetic radiation from electronic
appliances and other equipment, Tages-Anzeiger reported, citing a
study by
the Zurich- based Federal Institute of Technology.

So-called "electrosmog'' sensitivity varies from person to person, the
Swiss paper said. It remains unclear if such radiation is a health
hazard,
according to the report.

The study didn't consider radiation from cellular phones, which has
been
blamed for causing headaches, sleep disorders, and other health
problems,
the paper said.

Orange Communications SA, a Swiss phone-services provider, had to
delay
offering services by two months last year amid Swiss citizens'
opposition
to the erection of antennas, which they claim cause cancer.
