Believed to have originated in the Middle East and Asia, the early
varieties of this vegetable were yellow, purple and black. Women in
Elizabethan England wove the vegetable's wispy fernlike leaves into wreaths
to adorn their hair. The modern day one was originally a mutant. Name the
vegetable.
