Yes Euell Gibbons existed, was a proponent of eating natural foods, and
yes he even did say "Many parts of the pine tree are edible..." I am not
entirely sure if he did die from aspirating a pinon seed, or exactly how
he died. You should be able to do a web search on 'Euell Gibbons" and
find something on him that might tell how he died. I do know that before
my parents home burned they did have a copy of his book, but I don't
know if it survived.
