I am not Arnold and don't practice bodybuilding, but this seems to
illustrate the dilemma:
-with too short resting periods, your body doesn't recover,
-with too long resting periods, your muscles don't adapt and you are
sore for 3 or 4 days.

Something that I used to practice every day was the so-called "iron
board" posture: "lie" on your back, legs straight, feet and head
slightly above the ground. This takes only 3 minutes a day, and
whenever I worked on my abdominal muscles (no more than once a week),
they didn't hurt at all the next days. This apparently means that a
few minutes a day is enough to maintain the muscles between heavy
workout sessions (again, I don't know if this applies to bodybuilding).
