The latest issue of "Natural Health" magazine (January-February 1998), in
a news note on pg. 23 reports that:

* "this past summer, two dozen people were hospitalized with E. coli
infections." [from alfalfa sprouts]

* "In 1996, 43 cases of salmonella posioning were linked to contaminated
alfalfa sprouts in Oregon."

The article also says the bacteria can be on the seeds, which means that
growing your own sprouts is no guarantee of safety.

Regards,
Tom Billings
