I came across the following today, and thought some here would find it of
interest.

>From page 75 of "Prakruti: Your Ayurvedic Constitution", by Robert Svoboda:

"Animals also self-administer drugs to themselves on occasion. Baboons have
been known to use tobacco; elephants, racoons, bears, goats, pigs and sheep
consume fermented fruits and grains for the alcohol; and reindeer, cattle and
rabbits sometimes partake of intoxicating mushrooms. Animals know when to
stop, though..." [unlike people]

I have personally seen birds in Florida eat fruit and "get drunk", wildly flying
into objects (like houses, signs).

Animals are also known to use herbal medicine - I don't have a list handy, but
the animals that use herbs include chimpanzees, elephants, and several other
kinds of animals.

Regards,
Tom Billings
