Here's my take on the available(?) instincto books, and some others
that are related:

INSTINCTIVE NUTRITION by Severen Schaeffer, 1987 Celestial Arts.

The first in English. Clear rendering of the principals of anopsology
(instincto) for a lay audience. Now back in print after a lapse, which
bodes well for instincto, I think. Can be ordered from any bookstore.
Must reading.

MAXIMIZE IMMUNITY by Bruno Cromby, 1994 Marcus Books. A translation
from the French titled book "Nature contre sida" by a fellow who is an
integral part of the French instincto movement. Bruno lived and worked
for several years at the Chateau de Montrame (the Insincto-therapy
center outside of Paris). This writing uses a discussion of AIDS as a
springboard for an exploration of the theories of instincto. Lots of
no-nonsense logical arguments displaying how cooked foods compromise
one's immune system. Understandable to anyone but obviously written
with a scientific audience in mind. Includes summaries of the
usefulness of viruses and bacteria in detoxing and enabling the highest
levels of human health. Should be a bombshell in the scientific
community but has, to my knowledge, received no recognition at all.
The translator did a great job! Can be ordered from Marcus Books, PO
Box 327, Queensville, Ontario, Canada, L0G 1RO. phone:(905) 478-2201,
fax: (905) 478-8338. They will fax you a catalog I think but didn't
take credit cards as of 10/96. You mail a check and wait several weeks
for it in the mail. Must reading.

INSTINCTIVE EATING: THE LOST KNOWLEDGE OF OPTIMUM NUTRITION, by Zephyr,
1996 Pan Piper Press. An intensely first-person account of one
instincto's journey, parts of which may baffle (shock?) vegetarian
readers, but there is no question of the environmental sensitivity of
the author, or his commitment to a sustainable lifestyle. Written in a
lively, generous style which drips with Zephyr's honesty and integrity.
Not just instinctive nutrition, but the author's take on instinctive
living as well. Contact Pan Piper Press, RR2 #3950, Pahoa, HI 96778. It
is increasingly available in health food stores in California and
hopefully its distribution will expand. Must reading. (Zephyr can post
the phone numbers and price if he cares to.)

INSTINCTIVE NUTRITION: FOOD, YOUR BODY AND YOU, by Helen Young, 1995
Accord Health & Lifestyle Management. A short, clear exposition of
instincto explaining much of Guy-Claude Burger's ideas on alimentation
(he also writes a brief forward). Interesting and a good introduction
to instincto, but if you've read any of the above three books you will
find very little that is new here. Send AUS$21.95 per book to Accord
Health & Lifestyle Managment, PO Box 41, Flemington 3031 Victoria,
Australia and wait for it in the mail. (I sent US$20 which was
technically more than enough.)

There are both electronic copies and printout copies (translated from
the French) floating around of one of Guy-Claude Burger's
dialogue-format books in which he explains in expansive detail the
history of his discovery of the human alimentary instinct and the
theoretical tenets which he has devised to explain them. All of the
above books are in great debt to Guy-Claude and one hopes that this
translation becomes widely available soon. Parts of it are posted in JR
Ellis' RawTimes web page at http://speed.nimh.nih.gov/rawtimes.html.
Sooner or later the entire writing should be available there.

The address of Guy-Claude's Instincto-therapy center outside of Paris
is:

Chateau de Mantram
Soisy-Bouy
77650
Longueville, France
phone: (33)1.64.60.20.80
fax: (33)1.64.60.20.91

A visit is worth the time and money for anyone serious about a 100%
instincto diet, particularly anyone with serious health problems. Most
of the written stuff they have is in French.

THE PALEOLITHIC PRESCRIPTION, by S. Boyd Eaton, MD, Marjorie Shostack,
Melvin Konner, MD, PhD. 1988, Harper & Row. These are mainstream
scientists who outine a riviting summary of anthropology, sociology,
and the current reseach in order to arrive at the "true human diet and,
to a lessor degree, lifestyle. The differences between raw and cooked
food is only mentioned in passing and the resulting diet
recommendations are absurd (how can these people put the whole story
together and then say we should eat low-fat jelly to make up for the
berries in our ancestor's diet!). This book compares and constrasts the
modern diet and habits of homo sapiens with their Stone Age pregenetors
using mainstream research. It is basically the research base supporting
a raw diet of animal foods, fruits, and veggies without even realizing
it. Great for a summary of research on the Paleolithic diet but a real
head-slapper when it comes to its wimpy "recomendations". Must read.
Sadly out of print but I've seen it for $2.99 in overstock/discount
bookstores. Libraries?

INTERVIEW WITH WARD NICHOLSON, in Health & Beyond Vol. 4, No. 6,8,9.
What would happen if the classic "intelligent layman" went the the
libraries available to him in Witchita, Kansas and found out for
himself just what the heck is known and published regarding human
evolution as it relates to diet? Read for yourself. Ward's answers are
largely common knowledge in the scientific community but he is very hip
to all the raw foods arguments and interpets the research in light of
(and often opposition to) NH dogma. This will probably be seen as=20
controversial, and if it is, it may simply be because there have been
so few NHers willing to research the issues with an open mind
themselves. Contact Chet Day through his web page at
http://members.GNN.COM/chetday/open.htm and sign on to his Health and
Beyond newsletter. Must read.

NATIVE NUTRITION: EATING ACCORDING TO ANCESTRAL WISDOM, by Ronald
Schmid, N.D. 1994 Healing Arts Press. Schmid considers the research of
Dr. Weston Price in light of more recents nutritional studies and
argues for a high protien, high veggie diet, as raw as possible.
Nowhere does he mention instincto or a taste-change, but the book has
important perspectives for any student of instinctive nutrition. Must
read (especially if you can't get hold of Dr. Price's book, below).

----------------

NUTRITION & PHYSICAL DEGENERATION, by Dr. Weston Price. 1945/1970,
Price-Pottenger Nutrition Foundation. Available only in hardcover, this
books summarizes the life's work of a dentist who traveled the world
earlier this century looking for pristine traditional peoples in order
to prove the superiority of a vegetarian diet, but concluded instead
that animal foods are fundamental to human well-being. Each chapter
deals with a specific traditional culture, showing photos and listing
data (almost always in prose form, tough going) comparing the dental
heath of the people eating the traditional foods and those people of
the same heritage who have been eating refined western foods. The
traditional foods win. Contact the Price-Pottenger Nutrition
Foundation, Box 2614, LaMesa CA 91943-2614 (Phone: 619-574-7763) The
photos alone are worth the price if you have some disposable income.

POTTINGERS CAT'S: A STUDY IN NUTRITION, by Dr. Francis Pottinger. 1983
Price-Pottenger Nutrition Foundation. A summary/compilation of the
oft-quoted research done between 1932 and 1942 begs for peer review and
confirmation (or not) by research done using modern methods. Pottinger
fed various groups of cats on various combinations or raw and cooked
milk and meat. Stunning support for the utility of raw foods. Does not
shy away from raw animal foods in his recommendations for human diet,
but a cat is quite different than a human being. Pictures, charts, etc.
Contact the Price-Pottenger Nutrition Foundation, Box 2614, LaMesa CA
91943-2614 (Phone: 619-574-7763). Available in paperback.

ENZYME NUTRITION: THE FOOD ENZYME CONCEPT, by Dr. Edwrd Howell. 1985,
Avery Publishing Group. Explains the superiority of raw foods in terms
of enzymes. Both animal and plant foods are explored. Must reading. I
don't know if it is in print anymore (see below)
FOOD ENZYMES FOR HEALTH AND LONGEVITY<< by Dr. Edward Howell. 1994,
Lotus Press (National Enzyme Company) I'm not sure what the story is
with this. The cover calls it the "2nd edition--revised and enlarged"
and much of it is similar to ENZYME NUTRITION, but the stuff that has
been cut from EN was great stuff(!) leaving this the weaker version. Is
this the version which is slated to sell enzyme tablets?

What am I missing?
Cheers,

Kirt
