Not so long ago, I mentioned that my body burns fruit around 96 degrees
F, veggies at about 97, and nuts, not sure, but thought around 98, given
that body temps were usually elevated above 97, like 97.5, the mornng
after nuts were consumed. Since nuts were never a complete day's intake,
I couldn't say exactly at what temp nuts were burning.

Now I'm of a different mind, so I think I'll set my record straight
(hopefully). Given that nuts are very calorie-rich, and given that I've
never really been trained as an Instincto, my tendency is to overeat on
them when I do eat them. I now think that the elevated temp with nuts
was more due to higher total daily caloric consumption rather than the
nuts themselves. I have tended to eat to fill my belly, and my belly
holds a lot more nut calories than celery calories. After a couple weeks
restricting myself to 2 oz/day when I eat them (instead of the 4, 6, or 8
I used to do), I don't notice any temp elevation after nut days vs
non-nut days.

Besides temp elevation, too many calories also elevates my waking pulse
rate, the pulse rate seeming to be the more sensitive indicator of
overeating. When I'm "good," the pulse hovers around 50 +/- 2 bpm. When
I'm not so good, it gets up into the high 50's (even 60's on a dried
fruit binge --- fortunately very uncommon these days).

Some of you guys might like to eavesdrop on crsociety, the Calorie
Restriction for longevity gang, most of whom know nothing about raw
foods, but a lot about why eating very little is good for you. I think
I'm learning to tame my appetite better just by hanging around with these
pseudo-scientific Journal-citation nerds than I did before. And when I
do a good job of starving myself, I'm usually rewarded with more energy
and lesser sleep requirements than when I overstuff myself on those
delicious, delectable, out-of-this-world raw foods. (Only a raw foodist
would undestand!)
