If a breast-fed baby fails to thrive, it is often due to a deficiency
in breast-milk (or illness). Here the question is the quality
of the breast milk, esp. as the woman had multiple children
previously. I knew a raw vegan mother whose 2nd child, a daughter,
failed to thrive. (The child was hospitalized, the state Child Protective
Services got involved, and they almost lost their children to the
state.) In that case, the MDs said her (the Mother's) B-12 stores were
depleted, hence the breastmilk had little/no B-12. B-12 deficiency takes a
long time for symptoms to occur in adults, but it works rapidly in infants
and babies. (This case was back in the early 1980's, also in Florida.)
