aloha!
i have eaten wild rice at "_raw_ living foods restaurant" in san
francisco. you'll find it on the menu listed as *manitok*, with the
ingredients including avocado, fresh chives (mine had purple flowers on the
end!), lemon juice, and, of course: sprouted wild rice. the menu claimed 30
days of rinsing at sundown and sunup. sunset & sunrise. i love the sun!
but i'll leave that for another post.

speaking of posting, i declare this my first to veg-raw. i'll
present a personal introduction soon, yet school starts tomorrow and i have
much to attend to. i joined this list just before traveling to vancouver, bc,
and the surrounding forests for the whole summer. i've enjoyed reading
through the 300+ email items awaiting me, most of them from veg-raw.

more on wild rice, a? juliano (sp?), owner of _raw_, told me that he
can speed up the sprouting time by leaving the germinating seeds in sunlight.
warmth increases the speed of life, as i understand it. up to a point...
108? 116? 118? 98.6? how high do you go? (all numbers in fahrenheit,
with apologies to everyone not living under american silliness.) canada
sells food by both english/standard & metric! how goes it in the united
kingdom? elsewhere?

i haven't made it up to see how well _raw_ has done over the summer,
what with all these raw web pages get lost in. i remember when the only site
i could find on the living foods lifestyle consisted of a short piece of
writing followed by a 900 number to call for more information. something
like $2.99/minute! i didn't call.

i just came from the weekly santa cruz farmer's market. the loot:

+ 2 baskets of red hot peppers, plus a dozen serranos....... 3.00
    + 3 heads of garlic......................................... .75
    + 5 crenshaw melons ........................................ 5.25

all certifiied organic. i don't plan on notifying veg-raw of
my every purchase, but i thought this complete inventory of my most recent
food investment would spark some lively discussion. some that came to my
mind:

        red hot chili peppers?
        can capsicums create conspicuous cravings?
garlic as immune stimulant or rajasic meditation disruptor (or both)?
does garlic truly ignite sexual passions when cooked, while inflaming
                 anger when eaten raw?
does eating melons exclusively for a week or more treat you as well
as it did mr. paul bragg? (r.i.p.)
        melons sprinkled with lime juice?

more rice rap. i tried sprouting it once, but my life didn't follow
the right rinsing rhythm. result? sticky smelly stuff. i'll surely share
my success when i feel like venturing forth into that kind of commitment. i
admit that reading of wild rice's status as a *seed* encourages me more than
when i thought it a mere grain.

a final query: anyone know anything about the raw food experiments
in truth conducted by mohandas karamchand "mahatma" gandhi? all i know comes
from a blue paperback he authored entitled _the health guide_, published by
the crossing press (with a statement about the original run in india). i'll
break some copyrights in a future post, but for now let me leave you this gem
from page 106:

"my own experience, as well as my study of the subject, has
confirmed me in the conviction that a fruit diet is the best for us."

blessings,
bodhi
