I beg to differ.  I personally know some strict vegan primates.  I was
even
one myself for a while (disregarding some old leather shoes in my
closet).
(I know, I know, you were talking about apes - I just feel nitpicky
today.)

I also must differ about the "healthy looking" folks in the '40s and
'50s
movies.  They had no color at all.
