hullo and Season's Greetings to you all...

I mentioned detox pathways before, but hadn't the time to find the book (
now at last I've found the it) which describes the fundamentals:
"Detoxification & Healing : The Key to Optional Health" by Sidney MacDonald
Baker, MD.

I can't really summarise it, the book is full of interesting info about
health-promoting, but here is the guts:
In the chapter "How detoxification works" he states that its a two-stage
process:
1. enzyme system "cytochrome P450" 'activates' the molecules that need to
be removed. (this makes them 'sticky' - and at the same time more dangerous
to the body. This is not a problem if the second stage is ready to deal
with them:

2. conjugation deactivates the activated molecules by attaching them to
'carrier' molecules, and makes the waste more soluble for excretion.
Carrier molecules are of different types:
        glucuronide (sugar based)
        glycine (amino acid)
        sulfur-based
(He doesn't say, but I guess that these different types are individually
suited to different types of toxins, and perhaps they work synergistically).

The author goes on to suggest that UltraClear products, designed by Dr
Bland, provide the required nutients for the detoxing expained above. And
apparently which UltraClear product to use needs guidance. Of course, this
does not preclude one from obtaining the required nutrients from other
sources. Unfortunately there seems to be a lack of advice on what these
are, unless they are explained elsewhere in the book (its a while since I
read it through).

I am currently interested in more details, which would help me choose my
foods better.

happy holidays,

Lynton
