aloha john!
"fasting" for five days on alpha sun super blue green algae &
water. mountaineering above 11,000 feet, everyone else cookin' &
munchin' & celebratin' the summit with snickers & me with my water bottle
& funny powder & energy & running ahead with my 50lb+ backpack on &
sleepin' under the clear starry sky of the high sierra. late september
of '95, on a program called wilderness orientation (wo!). great thing to
do for entering freshpeople of ucsc. 12 students, 3 leaders... anyways,
i felt great from the diet, but i can't rule out the sharp increase in
exercise, removal from civilization's stress & toxins, & great community
building. rock climbing! cold-water lakes! makeshift lukewarm sauna!
(well, the last one could have worked out better)
i blew more than a few minds on that trip with my raw energy &
good spirits. many fasted for their firt time, during a "solo" (all
alone with no food for 24 hours). powerful medicine wheel ceremonies
before & after this introspective journey. wo!

hearing the call of the wild,
			     bodhi
