You can backup your registry by making copies of system.dat and user.dat
(both are hidden files).
Better yet, use Microsoft ERU (Emergency Recovery Utility) to quickly and
painlessly backup these important files all in one fell swoop:
autoexec.bat
command.com
config.sys
lo.sys
msdos.sys
protocol.ini
system.dat
system.ini
user.dat
win.ini
Microsoft ERU is a 96 KB zipped file available for download from the NOSPIN
group.
