It sounds to me like you have lost ONLY a "system event" sound.
Clicking on that Icon is a system event...
Some systems events can be assigned a sound of your choice.
I had sounds for maximizing and minimizing windows, etc...
In Control Panel, look for an Event that has no sound assigned,
or has a sound but the file is missing. (Use the preview button
to test your sounds.)           Rick Glazier
