This answer is for XP only...
Packet software is NOT required to be installed.
(If you don't know what that is, consider yourself lucky, IMHO.)
Put a blank CD-R in the burner, (or a CD-R with any number of closed sessions,
but where the disk is open --as in "the disk" is not finalized or closed).
Unless you used another burning program on the CD-R, it will more than likely
be ready to use "as is"...
Then drag the files you want to burn to the CD-R burner drive.
When you have "copied" all you want to the drive, (you are actually establishing
links to the files), select the line that says something like - burn these files to CD.
You will have a limitation of something like 700m (or 650m) for each CD-R disk.
There is some "hidden" overhead space used by the burning process, so do not
count on getting full use of the disk, especially if adding files in small batches...
(I think the overhead is something like 15M per batch AFTER the first burn, where
the overhead is even more the first time...)
I use Nero since I can have more options, but this "built-in burning for XP" works
well for my wife on her computer...
