Another list subscriber who uses Verizon recently reported a problem with
his subscription. Although actual list emails would get through fine for a
while, the Verizon system was somehow rejecting periodic "probe" messages
from the list server. Somehow, the email software packages on the two
servers don't quite want to talk to each other in that specific case.
My recommendation to that subscriber, as a temporary workaround, was to
obtain a free account at Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail, or wherever, and use that
for their list subscription. Some services might even allow that account to
forward everything to their verizon.net email box.
