I often edit this feature:

**In Control Panel, select Sounds (double-click).
**Navigate down the event list to "New Mail Notification" and
highlight that item.
**Click on Browse to locate appropriate sound files from which to
choose. You may have a sound file other than those on this list
that you wish to use.
**After you select a file, click on the > arrow to the right of
the preview image. It will play the sound you have selected.
**Click OK.
