I'm on a mission! I've got a program running in the background (OFPS.exe)
which begins on Win XP startup. I have no idea what it is. I wrote Fred
Langa, who didn't know, but I had written him really in search of any
programs to identify TSR/other programs running. Here's part of what I
wrote:

"Although I searched the archives (unsuccessfully) [referring here to the
LangaList archives], this may have been discussed before. How can we
determine what the program is running in the background? For example, I've
got OFPS.EXE which Process Viewer (http://www.teamcti.com/pview/prcview.htm)
only identifies with date created and date modified. Going to
AnswersThatWork (http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist.htm)
and looking at their list of Task List programs wasn't any help (but they
have a ton of information available). Searching Google was unsuccessful, so
after my due diligence efforts, I thought I'd pose the question to you."

In case you're not using Process Viewer (now part of Norton's SystemWorks
2002), it great (and free), and usually it tells me exactly who owns the
program, e.g., Microsoft and gives me the information for which I'm
searching. Also, AnswersThatWork give a comprehensive list of background
programs, and I've found a few other websites that identify lists of background programs/TSRs (but the list is at the office, sorry).

But, does anybody know of a program or comprehensive internet sites where a program can be identified. Now I'm less interested in what OFPS.exe is and how to figure out what a program is.

Thanks in advance.

Ed
