I am having trouble recording with a high quality professional dynamic
microphone on both my AWE64 or my SB32PNP. I am also having trouble making
a recording from my cassette deck through the IN jack on my SBs. I am
obviously doing something wrong here but I don't know what.

The microphone is compatible with the SBs...I used it a few years ago but I
can't remember what I did differently. The microphone does have it's own
battery powered pre amp so I can use it in the IN jack ...and it works that
way......although I have to boost the decibels after I make a voice
recording. If the microphone is plugged into the MIC jack it turns my
speakers into a PA but it won't work for a recording. If the microphone is
not plugged into the microphone cable but the cable is plugged into the
card then I get a background hum and microphone cable movement noise
through the PC speakers....the cable plugged into the MIC jack is enough to
turn it into a PA.

This is the same scenario if I plug my cassette deck into the IN Jack. with
nothing but the DIN to RCA adaptor cable plugged into the card I get a hum
.....and noise every time the cable is moved. If I connect a tape deck up
to the card then it plays through the PC speakers but I can't record using
Cool Pro or windows recorder.

I have unchecked all mute buttons in <little yellow speaker > Play
Control...and adjusted volumes up. Settings under Control Panel /
Multimedia appear correct...the SB is the device for playback and record
in....CD Quality.

Since this won't work on two different PCs with two different SBs then I
must be doing something wrong..or a software configuration is wrong.....but
what ? ?

Thanks

m
