Hello Myra,

It's not necessary to turn off System Restore to run your AVG or spyware
detection programs. Only if AVG tells you it found a virus but it cannot
heal/immunize it. If a System Restore point was created, either
automatically or by you, at a time when the computer was infected, then it
will be in the restore files protected by Windows. When you turn off System
Restore, restart the computer and those files will be deleted. Then run AVG
Anti-Virus and you should get a 'clean bill of health'.

Always check for the latest update before running AVG. If you haven't done
so already, follow Juanita Kimble's advice on 3/14/2004. It works great.
Leave AVG running at all times. It doesn't interfere with the Spyware
detection programs or vice versa. If you have the scheduler enabled
(Scheduler tab in AVG Control Center) it will run a complete test every 24
hours. The problem with this is that you can't specify a time and if the
computer isn't on, it won't happen. I've found it's best to turn the
scheduler off and run a complete test at a time of my choosing, normally
after an update.

Run your spyware detection programs again, just to be on the safe side.
There's no need to wait to turn System Restore back on, turn it on, restart
and you're in business. Good luck!

This says to turn System Restore off before running any of the software
suggestions given, yet AVG is to be running all the time and periodic scans
to run,
probably in the middle of the night. How can these both be done? And also,
why the 24 hr wait to turn System Restore back on? I just turned it off to
download Avast. Should I have done that? Avast says it cannot run
simultaneously
with Norton on a couple of its features,(can't remember which ones). When
Noton AV runs out, I don't intend to buy it again, but what do I do in the
meantime? Thanks for your help.
