I bought a retail version of XP Home SP2 last year. I don't know if they are getting hard to find or not, but I recommend you do it right away. I just wanted to be sure I would never get stuck with VISTA being the only choice if I wanted to keep Windows OS. I wish more people were aware of what MS is trying to do with VISTA - it's a foot in the door to MS's & other vendors remote control of their PC.

According to MS, you will certainly be able to activate it next year. That's the whole point of the retail copy - you can install and activate it all you want, as long as it is only on one pc AT A TIME. You have a certain number of activations, so if you change hardware often, you may have to call and get another activation code, but that is supposedly no problem.

Subject: [PCSOFT] New Build with XP

I'm planning on building a new computer either next fall or winter. I understand Microsoft is not going to support it beyond the end of June this year. If I buy a retail copy of XP will I still be able to activate it next year and is there anything special I should do before the end of June?

Thanks for any advice.

Marilyn
