I have experience with similar problems on PowerPoint 97.
One case was when drawings and text was copy and pasted from other
Office 97 programs. File was possible open on StarOffice Impress.
Usually problem is that file corrupted. Sometimes open it in other
presentation
programs ( like SO Impress or Corel Presentations) can partially fix it.
Mostly
when file is fragmented this means allow fast save is enabled.
So try open it some other presentation program.
