I have a old version of Chessmaster 3.0 for Win 3.1. I happen to prefer
this simple version and although I have upgraded over the years ....version
Chessmaster 4 and then 5 ...I still like version 3 because it doesn't offer
a lot of stuff I don't use and I can set up as a simple board with standard
pieces and it does NOT require that a CD be in the player. It is fast to
load and unload and it is the only one I use.
It runs ok under 9x and NT ...sound doesn't work and it throws up a error
message about this when you exit but it is OK for me.
However there is one annoying thing.....like many badly written
applications in the Win3.1 era this program asks for ALL available CPU
cycles. So once loaded CPU is operating at 100 percent all the time. This
doesn't slow anything down..that I can tell...but it is annoying.
In NT you can make 16 bit apps run in their own memory space ....but this
doesn't effect CPU.
Does anyone know a way to tame this manic app ?
