That's probably your answer, if you want a simple one. Every time you have
a forced shutdown, you add more unresolved crud to the system till it gets
to the stage where it can't cope. If you don't reopen in Safe Mode, Windows
will try to reopen with whatever you previously had open still stuck in its
maw, so to speak. No easy solution if you allow it to get to that stage,
I'm afraid. Could be 100's of reasons.

Try a registry restore. Usually helps if it hasn't got too bad.

Look for:

Overheating (Sticky fan).
Bad memory.
Too much running.
Memory leak (depends which windows)
Insufficient memory.

Impossible to guess without knowing a great deal more.
