I would also recommend running your anti-virus software while downloading
email. This week I've caught 8 virus attachments while downloading by
using my McAfee virus software.
On a similar question. I've been using Inoculate IT on my home machine
because it is free and seems to do a good job. But it has (for me ) one
serious drawback. I can't temporarily disable it or exit and restart
without rebooting it like I can McAfee . Are there other *free* AV
programs that run in the background as a monitor like McAfee and Inoculate
It but allow itself to be disabled/enabled or shutdown/started without
having to reboot?
