Defragging - unplug ADSL connection?

Hello, All,

The recent discussion on defragging has brought a long-standing question to
mind.  Since Zone Alarm (and AVG, for that matter) are disabled along with
all other background programs, is there any vulnerability to attack when
running Defrag?  It seems that the computer is in a state in which no
outside activity could interfere, but I have been unplugging the modem to
be on the safe side.
