  I believe that "frame and red x" is how current versions of
Internet Explorer show "I could not open this file."

  I can think of three likely possibilities:

1.  Perhaps the file is uploaded to a UNIX system, and the
capitalization of the filename in the link on the page doesn't match
the capitalization of the actual filename.  (UNIX filenames are case-
sensitive.)

2.  Perhaps the link specifies an absolute path to the file, but it's
an absolute path on your relative's machine, not to the directory on
the server where they reside now.

3.  Perhaps they were uploaded with access permitted only to the file
owner, who must give "read" permission on the files before others can
see them.
